As Susan is a 52-year-old Indigenous woman, she was born in 1972, it is highly likely that she suffered generational trauma from the atrocities the Indigenous peoples of Canada faced. For example, the 60’s Scoop was just a few years prior, where children were forcibly separated from families and placed with non-indigenous families. Susan’s family could have been affected by this and the trauma from losing a child could have filled her parents or grandparents lives with anxiety, fear, depression. All these feelings could have manifested their way into Susan’s life, especially as she heard stories about this as she grew up.
