Edgar Allan Poe creates a suspenseful story using the characters of his story ”The Black Cat.” The quote, ”I began to use foul language to my wife and sometimes even struck her” (59), proves that. This creates suspense because it makes you wonder why he would strike his wife. You also wonder if he will get so annoyed with his wife to the point of not only just abusing her, but killing her, too. This also makes us wonder if he has abused other people, too, not just his wife. Also, if he ever would have kids, would he abuse them, too?
