A Tale of Two Cities is concerned with events in Paris and London before and during the French Revolution. The story focuses on Charles Darnay, the self-exiled nephew of French nobility, and his wife, Lucie Manette, daughter of Dr. Alexandre Manette. In the story Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton are said to look exactly alike and Charles Darnay get’s acquitted of his trial because Sydney looks so similar to him. The book is really telling a tale of the French revolution and referring to the blood spilled in the streets and all the revolutionists hiding from the spys. Charles Darnay is a High class man on trial for treason. He has dark empty eyes and is a lazy man. Sydney seems to not care about his appearance but, is described when we first meet him as a ‘... gentleman with his hands in his pockets, whose whole attention, … seemed to be concentrated on the ceiling of the court.” (page 57) Sydney is a drunk and doesn’t care about his clothes or how he’s seen by others. Unlike Charles, Sydney goes straight to Lucie to confess his love for her. Sydney is controlled by his emotions unlike Charles. The similarities I noticed in the novel Tale of Two Cities is that charles and Sydney both love Lucie and want to marry her. "You might have used your talents better" which darnay says to carton stating that his talents were wasted. The both also share the same appearances long hair, facial features and body structures. The biggest similarity between the two is their likeness to each other.
