In the novel Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli, Maniac is found to be a athletic person. In Maniac Magee Jerry Spinelli develops Maniac to be athletic; he loves exercising and is great at running and playing football. One way the author developed Maniac´s athleticism is by having John Mcnab and Maniac play a baseball league together. Maniac beat John Mcnab's record at the baseball league and John got mad so threw a frog at Maniac. In the long run Maniac taught John Mcnab how to throw the new type of pitch called a stop ball.
