In both literature components, the poem “The Bull Moose” by Alden Nowlan and the short story “This Is a Story” by Jeannette Armstrong draws the protagonist of each literally text to a symbolic significance. Symbolism is considered as a tool in literature to enhance the meaning and emotions of a writing piece. Nowlan has created the poem about a weak male moose’s journey before death. In contrast, Armstrong’s short story shows a savior, who is a traditional shape-shifting trickster figure and is looking for ways to save the Okanagan peoples lives. Although both writing components have different aspects of symbolizing the protagonist, Nowlan and Armstrong both exhibit human separation from nature as a common
