Before coming for this event, I did some research on the speaker --- Talithia Williams. She is a successful black woman in both mathematics and speech fields. In her school year, she went to Spelman College and went further her study in Rice University. Currently, she is a faculty and research member in the Department of Mathematics in Harvey Mudd College. She used to give a speech on TED called “Own Your Body’s Data”, in which she explained mathematics in an amusing and understandable way by showing statistics of the issues.
In today’s speech, she named the title “Using Big Data to Change Conversation”. By telling us real stories of hers and her friend’s, she mentioned that American ethnic groups were less likely to feel welcome and see connection
