The Dread Scott Case was about a slave taken from Missouri into Illinois and Wisconsin, shut to servitude as a result of the northwest law of 1787 and the Missouri bargain. After Dread Scott's lord passed on, he sued for his opportunity. Taney started that Scott since he was a slave did not have the privilege to sue for his opportunity, likewise he his residency in a free state did not influence him to free in view of the Missouri bargain. The bargain pronounced Taney disregarded the fifth change, security of property including slaves. The Lecompton constitution ensured the privileges of slaveholders living in Kansas and voters could vote to permit more slaves.
