Some sites are large, some are small, some are open, some are under a canopy of trees, some are great for groups in adjacent sites, and some are quiet secluded from everyone. About 30 of the sites at Tar Hollow State Park offer electricity and some sites allow pets. A shower house and toilets round out the amenities at the Tar Hollow State Park campground, but the campground makes up for its lack of comforts with its peacefulness and quiet. Pine Lake is a small man made lake that offers limited boating options as well as fishing. The lake is restricted to electric motors less than 4 HP. A small boat ramp is available, but those with canoes and kayaks can carry them to the water in a variety of locations. The most popular game fish in Pine Lake are bass, bluegill, and catfish. A small store is conveniently located near the lake and offers snacks, drinks, souvenirs and camping items. This store also rents boats and bikes. There are numerous hiking trails in Tar Hollow State Park, including one trail in excess of 15 miles. Horseback Riding is allowed in the adjacent Tar Hollow State Forest.
