On Sunday, August 28, 2005, MG Landreneau stood up Task Force Pelican, Task Force Pelican served as the command and control headquarters for the National Guard Soldiers that were performing state active duty for the hurricane. Task Force Pelican’s Commander Brigadier General Gary Jones assumed command on 28 August and had five task forces that were created under Task Force Pelican (Wombwell, 2005). TF Pelican consisted of an aviation task force that was called Task Force Eagle, Task Force Castle that was an engineer task force, Task Force Defender a security element, Task Force logistic that supported the mission, and Task Force SAR, a search and rescue element that also provided support (Wombwell, 2005). The second task force that was in
