On Sunday, August 28, 2005, MG Landreneau stood up Task Force Pelican, Task Force Pelican served as the command and control headquarters for the National Guard Soldiers that were performing state active duty for the hurricane. Task Force Pelican’s Commander Brigadier General Gary Jones assumed command on 28 August and had five task forces that were created under Task Force Pelican (Wombwell, 2005).
