My leader’s source of power has to be task oriented. Her main focus is for the staff to get the task completed. She doesn’t seem to bother to build relationship with the staff, as long as you do what you are told and completed your assigned task in a timely manner, she is a happy camper! Unlike relationship oriented leader, task oriented leaders tend to see everything as a negative outcome from the employee when the task isn’t done properly. While relationship oriented leaders, still see the good things in an employer even when the task isn’t done properly. In most cases it is very hard for managers to change their type of leadership. They get in the habit of a certain mindset and having to switch that mindset takes a ton of practice. My leader, at my current position, is a very task minded person since she doesn’t care to make relationships with the staff on board, nobody wants to be like her nor follow her. This is only a small reason why they don’t want to be anything like her, she is a very hypocritical person. She tells her staff that we can’t do something and the next day we find out she is doing that herself. There are no rules that pertain to her at this company, she comes and goes as she pleases. She claims her mom had it but unfortunately doesn’t see herself have that same issue. The employees here have to tip toe around and ask each other to find out if it is a good time to ask her a question. We can never depend on what kind of mood she might be in coming into work. Sometimes our leader wants to be very helpful, explain everything in detailed and other times she wants to make you feel dumb on purpose. There is no stability in her brain, to treat everyone the same, at all times. Therefore there is favoritism that happens throughout the office, which isn’t fair to anyone.
