So what makes a good teacher, and what make a bad teacher? This question is hard to answer because there are different types of students who like different types of teachers and teaching methods. But the way I see it there are three different types of teachers; the teachers who enjoy their job and love to see their students learn, the ones who say they love to their students learn but are just trying to get through the day, and there are the ones who really don’t give shit about their students, or even their job. The article entitled What Makes a Good Teacher, by A.C. Grayling describes a bad teacher as, “those who undermine their students' confidence, making them lose self-belief, humiliating and ridiculing them, picking one out and turning other students against him or her, poisoning their students' outlook either in a general or a particular respect.” (Grayling 3) I would agree one-hundred percent with that statement; also to it, I would add that a bad teacher hinders their students from learning. This could mean not teaching the material effectively, or not showing up to class. I have had my fair share of bad teachers, and a common characteristic they all share, is when the teacher cancels class multiple times throughout the semester. As a student its nice every once in a while to take a day off from class, but it gets pretty ridiculous when they are cancelling once a week. The way I see it, teaching is a job just like any other, and teachers should be held accountable to show up to class and teach the
