Introduction
The following teaching package has been developed in accordance with the Australian Curriculum (Health and Physical Education) and the Health Promoting Schools Framework which is the cooperation and partnerships between health and educational agencies in developing policies and initiating strategies for strengthening both education and health (Australian Health Promoting Schools Association, 1997).
The aim of this teaching package is to help educators in designing a healthier school environment. This is supported by the Healthy Kids (2013) which addresses five dynamics of health that need to be reinforced when teaching students about health and nutrition. These include:

This resource is to be reflected through the school’s specific curriculum, school environment and links with the local community. This resource regarding schools cultural food services and curriculum outcomes should directly relate to previous healthy eating units of work, this will allow the content to complement each other.
In relation to cultural components, teachers and students must also learn to recognise the various social and cultural factors through examination and evaluation of the diverse beliefs, attitudes and values that surround diverse cultures. Other aspects to consider is that when exploring different views about issues such as sexuality, gender, relationships and cultural beliefs, students and teachers are able to use evidence and research to identify and clarify values, points of view and evaluate the consequences of actions

This resource has been written by a primary teachers with the support of university and local schools resources in collaboration with Australian curriculum guidelines and the professional associations with the South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability (SACSA) Framework (2013). This document has been drafted during university workshops, and has been aimed towards NSW and ACT schools. In addition, this resource has been reviewed and refined by university staff and fellow colleagues to ensure that cultural safety standards are met.
