Don’t you think if someone is really depressed, they should get a lot of help? Well that is not the case for Andy Jackson from the book called “Tears of a Tiger”. After Rob died Andy has been really depressed. I don’t think that Andy got a lot of help from anyone especial his parents. Whenever Andy went to the shrink the shrink didn’t help that much. He won’t even ask questions to Andy. Instead, he cut their session short when Andy told him something.
When Andy Jackson told the shrink that he was doing fine the shrink cut their session short. The shrink had no help on Andy’s depression. This is what the shrink said after Andy said he was doing better, “I think we can cut these sessions to an-needed basis.”(Draper, 115) If the shrink keep the sessions going and asked more questions than Andy would have been fine. Andy’s parents are worse than the shrink. They didn’t even talked to Andy when he was depressed.
When Andy was depressed his parents didn’t even say a word to him. When Andy had a basketball game they never came. Unlike Rob’s parents, they came to all the games, even after when Rob died. Andy told the shrink that, “I feel like my parents have no grip on reality.” (Draper, 46) Andy felt like that his parents weren’t supportive at all. But Andy should have reached out for help. If Andy tried to reach out for help then maybe he might have been saved. But why would he when everyone knows he is depressed and that everyone around him can help him to get out of this depression. He told the shrink that “I’m sleepin’ better and I’m doin’ better in school.” (Draper, 115) Andy was not doing any better. He just wanted to not go to these sessions anymore. If Andy didn’t lie and told the truth, then maybe he might have been saved. But even if he did then the shrink couldn’t have helped because he didn’t even ask him any
