MEDICINES ACT. 1968 plus amendments.
The Medicines Act 1968 is a set of laws governing the distribution, sale and prescription of medicines. The act divides medicines in to three categories which determine where a drug or type of medicine can be sold, who can sell them and under what conditions. This Act affects my workplace as it protects the residents from illegal suppliers of medications. All medications in the care home must come from a prescription from the doctor.
MISUSE OF DRUGS ACT 1971.
The misuse of drugs act catagorises drugs or controlled substances according to how harmful they are to humans and makes it illegal to possess or supply them. To obtain any of the medications within the catagories you must have a prescription from the doctor. Any controlled drugs in the carehome must be locked away from access by anyone other than the person administering the medication, Any controlled drugs must be counted, witnessed and signed for by 2 people and recorded in the controlled drugs book.
DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998.
The Data Protection Act is designed to protect personal data about people. In the carehome it is important to keep all health records and information about the residents safe and secure. Information about the individuals must not be shared with anyone else apart from GP’s etc and all information we have in care plans etc are available for residents to view at any time they would want to see them.
HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK ACT 1974.
The health and safety at work act is set out to make sure employees work in a safe environment. In the care home we have to make sure that all hazardous substances for cleaning etc are locked away, The tempreture within the building is safe, make sure relevant signs are in place (wet floor etc).
