When you think of how the human race will change in the future, you automatically think of a more evolved and advanced society. We rely on the certainty of that fact to drive us to accomplish what was before considered to be the impossible. It is evident that as each generation arrives into a more advanced society than the previous one, they leave that society even more modernized. This cycle has been repeating itself over and over throughout the history of mankind. This has all been possible because we have been able to pick up from where the last generation left off and go from there. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys are stranded on an island because of a plane crash with no access to any technology or adults. Their survival is dependent on their ability to adapt and adjust to their new environment. We see that even though people have been evolving for generations and have been establishing values of a civil society, when thrust into an unexpected situation, even though they might try to preserve the values of civilization at first, just how easily they are able to slip back into their natural survival instincts and embrace savagery.
