In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys are stranded on an island because of a plane crash with no access to any technology or adults. Their survival is dependent on their ability to adapt and adjust to their new environment. We see that even though people have been evolving for generations and have been establishing values of a civil society, when thrust into an unexpected situation, even though they might try to preserve the values of civilization at first, just how easily they are able to slip back into their natural survival instincts and embrace savagery.
