Teen Sexting as a Felony

During the teen age years (13-17), teens are coming into shape with their personality. This time of their lives is when they are becoming who they want to be. Many things may happen during these years due to the high rate of puberty happening. Which in turn, can promote very risky activities such as Sex. But, when we take the word of sex and apply it as an electronic thing then it becomes sexting. Many debates have been taken place to turn this into a crime, classified under as a felony which is the most severe class of offense in America. According to dictionary.com, a felony is an offense, as murder or burglary, of graver character than those called misdemeanors, especially those commonly punished in the U.S. by imprisonment for more than a year. The reason it should become a felony is because the pictures never go away and are always in the media, having nudes can jeopardize job opportunities in the future, it would help draw a line between sexting and child pornography, and it can take an emotional impact on a teenager if/when they get exposed. Sexting is viewed in a major negative light. There are many consequences that can come from the fast fun of sexting. If it is popular why not put a stop to it now? Making sexting a felony will control the amount of teens who decide to do it because of the ramifications it poses. Not only is sexting a threat to a teenager’s life but also to his/her future. In order to control it the law will not only help, but parents must do the same too. With the proper support system teen sexting can be greatly reduce. Until the laws that are created as a felony for sexting are essential.
