In Professional Baseball in North Carolina: An Illustrated City-by-city History (108), J. Chris Holaday states “The Red Sox dominated the small four Blue Ridge League. They finished the season with a record of 71-35, taking the pennant by 11 games.” With the Lenoir Red Soxs being an exceptional team in the Blue Ridge League people wanted to come out and watch their games. This included people from all generations, including many teenagers. But in 1951 all the teams in Caldwell County have dissolved and all of the teams that were so popular in the 1900’s are nothing but memories, which shows how social options in Caldwell County have declined since then. In an interview with Kati Lockhart there is also more proof that Caldwell Counties social opportunities have decreased.
