The British would invade a colonist’s privacy due to taxes or actions against the crown. The colonist didn’t want to pay or be held responsible for taxes and payments they felt weren’t justified. According to the website called “Swindlelaw.com”, King George accused the colonist of “writs of assistance”, “which were legal search warrants that were extremely broad and general in scope”. This allowed British officials to enter colonist’s homes without reason or warning. Someone being allowed to come into to your home without your permission is something many people would be angry about and the colonists were no different. They did not like this law and when they went about creating new laws for their own country they made sure to deal with this matter. The Revolutionary war was fought for these colonists to have a say in how their own lives were to be governed. To have a law in place where uninvited government officials are allowed to walk in unwelcomed is not anyone’s idea of freedom. It should be noted that people should still be given privacy in their personal lives unless they decide to relay private information about themselves. Thanks to technology and other inventions people can communicate with others and even express feelings and thoughts to people around the world. Facebook has been one of the major contributors regarding this in the media and communicating personal thoughts about everything to the public. Things like this can cause some to question whether we truly live private lives and that much about our lives can be found on the internet. Many people disclose lots of their information across the web that is their choice and right. The First Amendment gives us freedom of speech and the ability to express yourself without restraint. However, this would also mean that you can hold back and keep what you want private to yourself. This is why the Fourth Amendment rights are so important. Just because someone exposes their life to the world does not mean people who have no personal connection to them should be allowed to enter your home without reasonable cause.
