The courtroom is full of tension as the citizens bicker to reveal the truth. Arthur Miller wrote a fictional allegory entitled The Crucible, that takes place during 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. The source of the town’s downfall are deceitful Abigail Williams, lustful John Proctor, self-concerned Reverend Parris, greedy Thomas Putnam, and jealous Elizabeth Proctor. The sins of Salem begin with revenge, greed, and lies. As revenge unfolds the city will quickly self destruct. One of the destroyers of the town is revenge. The Bible says, “Do not avenge yourself, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord” (Romans 12:19).
