It is important to be weary of our own ethics for several reasons. Importantly, ethics are the standard and guideline for our understanding the concepts of right and wrong of our own actions. Secondly, ethics help us to perceive and react to different situations long before their occurrence or to completely avert them. However sometimes they are no as clear cut to everyone many communities and organizations have adopted specific set of rules that govern their day to order of business to avoid misjudgment by their members. Ethics are also of uttermost importance especially to the engineering field since their inventions or goods can cause series damages if errors take place. They regard the safety of the public and its members to be of uttermost importance. Therefore, the AIAA expects that its members adhere strict safety standards and make sure that the public is fully informed about any risk in using their material. I think is one of the most important rules that is usually overlooked by professionals especially if the are giving services for a profit. The guideline clearly states that its members should ensure that uphold safety of the public in executing their duties (AIAA). The AIAA ethical conduct serves as templet that tells its members to stick to lofty standards of safety. Equally as import is determination of knowledge. A well informed public leads to safer users and attracts more people towards aeronautics and astronautics. Its very difficult to admit failure and it being stated in the guideline shows how it is important it is. For example, I recently received a recall for my car due to defective air bags. The company would have just kept quiet and blame the defects on the age of the car but that would have put my life in danger. Similar situations will arise during our careers where we will have own up to similar errors. It is difficult to test the performance of a vehicle for all possible situations or predict minute manufacturing imperfections. So, knowing how this can cause harm to the users we will need to own up and make it right. Also, when business people have a tendency misconstrue facts and statistic just to make sell. This code of conduct allows diligence when giving out information to mislead people. When engineers get jobs, they tend to concentrate on their jobs a not engage with their communities. The NSPE encourages its members to take part in civic duties and community engagement. This is both beneficial to the community and the engineers as they likely to get feedback and get solutions from the
