SEGMENT 1 FINAL DRAFT Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned from the NBA, fined for 2.5 million dollars, and forced to sell his team. This was because he made racist comments to his girlfriend, María Vanessa Perez, or better known as her new name, V. Stiviano. After the
Clippers basketball game on April 9th, Sterling had a talk with Stiviano saying that he doesn’t want her to show interactions with African Americans in public. Unfortunately, for Sterling, his girlfriend was recording the whole time and sent it to TMZ, a celebrity news website, and the whole conversation got leaked. On April 29th, David Stern, the NBA commissioner, declared
Sterling’s punishments.
Sterling had these outbursts because he was jealous of certain African Americans. This particular outburst happened because he saw that Stiviano had pictures of her with black people on her Instagram. She also invited black people, including Magic Johnson, to attend Clipper basketball games. Both of these Sterling had addressed with Stiviano in the recording, clearly jealous. In the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, racism is a theme that is shown throughout the novel.
