Steroids are widely known for their potential gains and downfalls on athletic performance. A few potential gains from steroid use toward athletic performance are seen where a person’s physical performance increases as well as appearing more ‘physically imposing,’ as Mack Lemouse (n.d.) the author of the article put it. In small doses, steroids are known to be able to prevent organ swelling (i.e. kidneys), and can prevent diseases that cause muscle wasting (i.e. muscular dystrophy) (Lemouse, n.d.). While steroids are known to increase muscle strength, body size, and increase healing rates, they also have a lot of downfalls and increases in risk for those that participate in using them (Linnaeus, 2015).
