The American Revolution was an important event in American history, it was so significant because it gave the United States, and its colonists independence from the British government. The American revolution started in 1765, and the causes that led up to this event varied and included factors such as economic policies and political issues American colonists had to face. The Navigation Act is the way the British Government took money away from colonists, by not letting them export things if England could make it. The Bloody Massacre was an event that took place in Boston in the year 1770. Mercantilism played a big role in this because the term means “gold equals power”, and the British Government wanted more power, and money. The Navigation Act system started out by being passed by the commonwealth in 1651, and was aimed towards their rivals the Dutch, making exports could only be brought in either by English ships or even ships of origin. Slowly as years passed in 1660 they reintroduced it to eliminate certain kinds of colonial products, and then eventually stuff could only be brought by English ships, and only be brought into their port. Eventually indigo, tobacco, rice, and molasses were added to the list of things being only exported by England in the 18th century, this then caused colonies such as Jamestown which tobacco was their main source of money to lose and not gain any. This issue then caused colonies to lose money because they could not export their goods to other colonies. In the 1720’s, and 1760’s under the leaderships of Robert Walpole, and Thomas Pelham-Holles they had made a policy called salutary neglect, and this trade regulation had to be followed by the colonies if they were loyal to Britain, but doing this it also helped make their economy better, and worse for other
