Every book tells a story and one girl is eager to know them. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is about little Liesel Meminger who up to her ninth birthday has not lived a normal childhood. She is living in Nazi Germany during WWII which obviously, was not a pleasant era for children because of how traumatizing it was. Lucky for Liesel, she managed to find a way to escape the terror. Her escape was stealing books but most importantly, it was the people she was exposed to that helped her live through these times of tribulation.
Normally, you will never forget the friend who helped you through the tough times. For Liesel, that friend was Rudy Steiner. Rudy Steiner was a boy about Liesel’s age who became her first friend in this new town she was taken in for adoption. Thanks to Rudy’s outgoing personality, it showed Liesel that she did not need to be timid if she wanted to have fun. This helped Liesel open up more to people around her. Later on, Rudy and Liesel even went stealing together! (pg.272) Although stealing is bad, this helped them both to bond together and have fun during these troubled times. In this short period of time, Rudy managed to help Liesel open up to the people around her.
