Despite of the cultural and political differences, the demagogy of the Americans to call and treat equally both groups have been an arising problem in the past decades. Spencer R. Herrera shares a peculiar point, “when Chicanos make fun of Mexicans they are making fun of their grandparents and when Mexicans make fun of Chicanos they are making fun of their grandchildren” p.21 it is not only the empathy that resemble both cultures but indifferently they are considered as a same race despite of its distinct characteristics. Chicanos and Mexicans are constantly fighting between each other while they ignore the fact they are seen as equal in the U.S. and that this dispute has left a negative effect leading to generations of Chicanos to misunderstand the values and …show more content…
Cases where Mexican immigrants have been constantly insulted due to its low understanding of the language have proved that the Chicano culture is also no viable. One example that Spencer recalls is in cuando los pericos mamen , stating that “once Mexicans cross the border they denied their heritage and this represents the beginning of a widening cultural division between Mexicans nationals and Mexican Americans” p.23. The relevance in this story uncovers the sad reality that is lived in many lives, the “derogatory perception” p.24 that reveals the truth being of an ambitious creature who denied his culture to form part of a society who also denies him, a Mexican who pretends being a gringo. The hegemony of Americans will impede other races to improve their social conditions, therefore, the irresponsibility and ignorance of Chicanos and Mexicans to mutually attack each other and instead to form bond relations that can benefit both cultures has been decreased.
