Attending The Cleveland Orchestra was a new experience for me since it was my first time attending an event at Severance Hall or even an orchestra. On this night of February 16, at 8:00 p.m. there were three separate pieces that were performed and which conducted by Bernard Labadie. The show began with Henri-Joseph Rigel’s Symphony No. 4 in C minor, Opus 12/4. This was followed by Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Opus 64 with Isabelle Faust of Germany as the soloist. Finally, the show closed with Wolfgang Amadè Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K550. The show lasted approximately 1:45 with a short intermission between the second and third pieces. Although I will say my most favorite piece was Rigel’s Symphony No. 4 in C minor, Opus 12/4. This was due to the range and the variation of the dynamics of the piece. I really enjoyed the precision of the Violins throughout the selection. This piece provided me with a feeling of excitement and relaxation depending on the rhythm. While reading through the provided show program I noticed this was the first time The Cleveland Orchestra was presenting a work by Rigel. Also, considering this was the first time I have ever heard a piece by him I was pleasantly surprised. Following Rigel’s piece was the Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Opus 64. This was my second favorite piece of the evening show. This piece was my second favorite because of Isabelle Faust’s spectacular performance on the Violin. The piece just ever so slightly fell short of my top pick because it did not evoke the kind of emotion which I received from Rigel’s piece. Faust’s abilities with the Violin impressed me as well as the other audience members. So much that she returned for a short solo after the piece was completed because of the standing
