There are many components of acting that help an actor portray a character to the best of their abilities. The use of their voices and bodies, along with their interpretation of lines, are some of the important tools actors use to develop a character. The Colored Museum had no lack of great performers and I found that each one performed uniquely. Though each actor portrayed multiple characters, I thought Brittany Caldwell and C’Andre Codner gave authentic performances with their use of body language, facial expressions, and vocal choices. Caldwell also added a squeaky laugh at the end of each of her lines to depict Miss Patt as the type of person who is always joyful. However, Caldwell quickly changed her voice to a serious, deep, demanding tone to showcase her character’s true self, and to expose the high-pitched, cheerful personality of Miss Patt, as phony. Next, Caldwell’s body language flawlessly illustrated the emotions of her characters. For example, in act two, scene nine, Caldwell played a famous performer, Lala, and her use of body language brought the character to life. When Caldwell walked on stage, she had a smile plastered on her face, her head was held high, her posture was perfect, and she strutted with poise.
