The complex mind When Parents are expecting a child their biggest fear is the physical and mental health of their child at birth. Every parent hopes their child turns out to be “normal” we emphasize on the word “normal” too much and yet we do not even clearly know what it means. “What is normal to the spider, is chaos to the fly” The Video “Neurotypical” brought back memories and flash backs. It reminded me of the struggle my parents had been through when my younger brother was diagnosed with autism. All parents want their kid to be the best, but once they find out there is something wrong with their child, it changes their life. The thought of sending your child to a special school is very scary. I have heard the term “normal” being used too much to classify children with special needs. Normal people didn’t do anything extra ordinary. None of the geniuses the world has ever seen can be categorized as normal, we always find extremely smart people to act in a very different way. Autism isn’t just a disability, it is a blessing too. People with high functioning autism excel in fields that interest them. It should be categorized as a personality, not as a disorder. Albert Einstein had autism and suffered from absence of speech till when he was about eight years old. There are many accounts of people being surprised after meeting him and observing his behavior. Einstein had difficulty while interacting with people, even though he was very intelligent yet he still found his language difficult at times, and had difficulty learning in school. It may have been that Einstein had such a hard time with learning in school because of the unavailability of accommodations and different teaching styles that many autistic children need. Because of this, it makes perfect sense that someone so intelligent and full of ideas about the world could fall behind in school. After research about Sir Isaac Newton (The great scientist). Many experts believe that Sir Isaac Newton had autism. Newton was very quiet and had never been good at friendly talking, or typical day to day conversations. He was extraordinarily focused on his work and had a hard time keeping away from it. There are accounts in which he was often so focused that he forgot to eat during these times of intense focus.
