The study of Kinesics is a crucial component of the Criminal Justice field because it involves the understanding human interaction nonverbally. His first contributions to this new field was his book called Kinesics: An Annotation System for Analysis for Body Motion and Gesture. In this book Ray Birdwhistell breakdown Kinesiology into three major categories: Pre-Kinesics, Micro-Kinesics, and Social Kinesics. Pre-Kinesics substantiate the psychological reason for the study of body motion. Micro-Kinesics deals with kines and is various classification.
