In the film it is evident that there is a fear of the practice of witchcraft amongst the town, which leads to the fear of the individuals within this group. The movie is set in a town with many people who are of different cultures, mainly Puritans, where witchcraft is the sign of the devil. Since anyone is susceptible to possession by the “devil” in this film, the people of the town fear each other. As the FBI were searching for the possible terrorist named Khaled al- Mihdhar, they realized that “there was little explanation about who he might be, except that his association with al-Qaeda and his possible involvement with the bombers of the Cole made [Khaled al- Mihdhar] ‘a risk to the national security’” ( Wright, 353). Uncertain if this man is a real threat to America, one can assume how scared the FBI agents were for what the future brought. Uncertainty, within the FBI, of the differences between Radical Islamists and those who are Muslim lead to an overgrowing fear of that whole culture
