Passion is a driving force that guides individuals through life, but what happens when passion crosses the fine line into obsession? Each of Christopher Nolan’s films (i.e. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Memento, The Prestige, Inception, and Interstellar) it is evident that his protagonists are motivated by passion; and yet, as the film plots advance the behaviors of these characters unmistakably display obsession. Through the contributions of supporting characters, Nolan is able to develop complexities within each of the protagonists allowing the audience to realize each lead character evolves beyond passion as a driving force to obsession, due to the trauma of experiencing the death of a loved one.
