In D’Ambrosio’s “The Dead Fish Museum,” the main protagonist is a man who takes a job on the set of a pornographic film. It follows the main character and his brief acquaintance with his two coworkers and their day to day routine. The usage of dialogue throughout this story created life among the characters. They became individuals instead of being merely talked about by the main character. Instead of seeing them from just his perspective, the dialogue between them allowed readers to briefly get a gist of their personalities, our presumptions about them changed as the story progressed and they became realistic. It engages readers and gives them a personal insight on the character’s lives.
