Johnny Tremain authored by Esther Forbes, a historical fiction story, is about a young kid who goes from being a young boy who cares about no-one to a independent young man. First, Johnny is an obnoxious fool at the beginning. Moreover, Johnny meets Rab. In conclusion, he realizes a man can stand up. Esther Forbes proves that Johnny is a dynamic character. Foremost, in an attic on Hancock Street, Johnny forces two other apprentices to wake up to get to work. For instance, when he wakes Dove up, he trips himself over Dove’s outstretched foot causing him to yell, “You do that again and I’ll beat you up again. You overgrown pig-of-a-louse” (3). Johnny’s attitude is obnoxious because he thinks of himself as God almighty and better than the other two apprentices even though he is a lesser apprentice. For instance, when Rab is dying Johnny goes to visit him before he dies and he thinks, “True Rab had died. Hundreds would die, but not the thing they died for. A man can stand up…” (256). Johnny is an obnoxious fool before meeting Rab. However, when Rab dies Johnny feels a spark that goes back to what James Otis mentioned. Johnny’s mind processes the deaths of the war, but he notices that they all stood up and he can stand up also. Moreover, Johnny changes from being a selfish and prideful jerk to a young man who thinks about other people and their feelings.
