In today's society boys commonly are three times more likely to get diagnosed with ADHD than girls and North Carolina is the fourth leading state in ADHD (Holland). ADHD is defined as “a chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness” (Mayo Clinic). ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. ADHD is not only caused at home environments but also can be highly caused in the education system as well. The education system effects childhood development through learning styles, mental treatment, and the economic involvement in education and effects on a child.

Poor mental treatment in the education system can cause ADHD in children as it can do many things to cause harm within a child's mental capabilities. It is commonly known that mentally harming a child could lead to numerous conflicts within a child's mental process in general. Childhood development is being affected and this weakness in the brain could lead to ADHD, in other words, said by Gwendolyn Lawson a doctor in clinical psychology, “both have been explained by the effects of stress on the developing brain. In the case of maltreatment, both neglect and abuse would be expected to increase children's stress”(Lawson). This study shows the effect of childhood development of ages 3-6 where ADHD is more prevalent today according to CHADD-The National Resource on ADHD. This exemplifies not only the mistreatment lead to ADHD in a child, but also leads to other disabilities as it hinders the development of the brain. Mental treatment in school differs from when at a home environment as many things can be amplified when being in a social environment at school. Mental treatment plays a large part in life and childhood development. Although not every child is treated poorly, treating a child in an undesirable way could and can affect them not only physically but mentally as well. Although, in many cases, children with more resources often to better than the ones without. This overall idea can lead to ADHD by having the stress if the economic status is in one's conscious thought and drive them into doing things they might not do commonly or have extra energy for. To demonstrate, according to a study by Gwendolyn Lawson done in Pennsylvania she states that, “More recently, researchers have started to examine the relationship between childhood SES and hippocampal volume. The literature is remarkably consistent, showing smaller hippocampi in children living in lower SES environments, a finding that has been interpreted in terms of the child's experienced stress”(Lawson). This not only shows that socioeconomics is affecting the children, but that it affects a certain part of the brain associated with memory called the hippocampus. This is harmful to a child development as it can affect the development of a child brain within, and how that child processes memory. Not only could this lead to other mental incapabilities this could also lead to ADHD as it can affect behavioral patterns. There are clearly a numerous amount of factors that pour into a child education.
