Egyptians have many believes about the afterlife. When a person passed away they believed that that person would still live in the afterlife. They looked at death as an amazing thing something that was better than living in this world. In order for a person to be able to come back to live in the afterlife they would need to go through a process called mummification as well as other obstacles which I will explain later on. A person could be mummified in different ways; it all depended on how wealthy that person was. Some process of mummification took up to 80 days, while others took less time. The purpose of mummifying a person’s body was so the body would stay preserve. During the process of mummification a person’s body was treated with …show more content…
During the funeral the body of the person would be place inside a tomb where some of their valuable belonging will be burry with them as well. It was the day of the funeral where people attending it had the opportunity to cry as much as they wish; they were able to be devastated as much as they wanted. Women specially were the ones that cry loudly and were very devastated. Not only did these women cry as a sign of grieve, but crying in this way also helped keep bad spirits away form the decease. Some of the belongings that were burry with the person where art paintings, pottery, jewelry and other valuable stuff. The paintings usually symbolize what a person would do in their afterlife. For example if it was a painting of a person partying that person will party during their afterlife. However, before a body could be place in their tomb, first a ceremony would have to be preform. The ceremony was preform by a priest. During the ceremony the priest would preform a ceremony known as the “ opening of the mouth.” The purpose of this ceremony was to bring back a person to the everlasting life. Nevertheless, in order for a person to be able to live during their afterlife, they first had to pass a test given by Osiris, the God of the death and rebirth.
