To the left of us was the horse and donkey quarters and to the right of us was the cow pasture. Rebecca gave us instructions and told us we could look around. We were then told that a formal tour was being given at 11 a.m. so we headed to these benches under another black tent and waited about ten minutes. This is what I was looking forward to all day. We got to the pasture where the cows happily live and were greeted by another volunteer who opened a large, off white gate and motioned us to come in. The dry dirt crunched underneath my shoes as I walked in. There were four cows in the pasture. One cow had a bright red mask on over her eyes to protect her face from flies. My sister and I immediately gravitated over to one cow named Aretha because there was less people around her and the volunteer Rebecca who we met earlier told us that Aretha was rescued from severe abuse and is very shy. I slowly walked up and Rebecca told me, “just so you know she doesn’t like to be pet on her face.” Aretha was lying down on the ground like a cat with her legs tucked in beneath her.
