The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is a memior of her struggles growing up and finding her place in the world. The children were put through harshness at a young age and while at times faultered others prevailed. Their parents Rex Walls and Rose Mary never would stay grounded with jobs and more than not, had no money. The neglect was rampant in the household but the children always found a way to make do with their many homes. Lori being the first child, saw the truth first and had to be strong for everyone else. Soon after Brian was scared by Rex’s mom and the children saw why Rex left everything and lived how they lived. When she got back from prison she took a one way to california to the land of the desert and free lettuce. Lori was the first out of their shack and she went straight to New York City to live her dream as a illistrater. She quickly got a job at a diner and made her way. Brian being the third of the family to New York, found himself enrolling to be a police officer as soon as he could in the city. Ever since he saw the officer break his parents fight after he called them, that was his dream and he eventually found his way.When Jeannette made her way on her one way ticket to the city, she also soon found a job as a newspaper journalist in a run down area with checks frequently boucing. Jeannette at first saw no point in going to college, “I now saw no point in college”, but she soon found herself attending after her boss said she should. After college she married her first husband Eric,” a year after dad died, i left Eric. He was a good man, but not the one for me”. Eventually she married her last husband John. Through out the childrens lives, there were trials and tests to make them stronger. Most of the kids became stronger, but at the same time pressure can either destroy or build someone up. All in all the childrens past went with them to their adult life and made them each their own
