The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a classic story that most people have heard of, which was published on April 10, 1925. What you may not know is that there are a couple of The Great Gatsby movies! The first one was produced in 1926! The second was made in 1949, and the third in 1974. Today we will be talking about the newest version - it was released on May 1, 2013, and was directed by Baz Luhrmann. If you love the 1920s and modernist literature with tragedy, romance, drama, and satire, you are sure to love this captivating story. There might be a couple of familiar faces: Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, to be specific. If you have never heard of The Great Gatsby, or read the book or watched one of the films, first of all, you are missing out on a very intriguing story, and second of all, you are in for a wild ride. …show more content…
In the book and the movie, Nick Carraway is the narrator, and he moves to New York City from the Midwest and finds out that his neighbor is Jay Gatsy, a millionaire. Jay lies about his past a lot, and he seems to be someone that he is not. Nick’s cousin, Daisy, lives across the bay with her husband, Tom Buchanan. Tom cheats on Daisy all the time and treats her horribly. Tom and Daisy have a daughter. Tom and Nick went to college together. Jay and Daisy had a past, before Jay went on to fight in the war, and Jay is still in love with her and determined to win her back. Jay and Nick become friends and Jay asks for a favor. He wants to have tea with Daisy, and he hopes to reconnect with her. Nick agrees and they meet up. Daisy and Gatsby become very close, once again, and she ends up having an affair with Tom. Tom eventually finds out and the story thickens from there. Although this is just the beginning of the plot, it is a really interesting and entertaining story. This movie sums up the book almost
