In every community there is some kind of hierarchy. It can be a country, a town or just one ranch. The hierarchy on Steinbeck's Tyler Ranch in the book Of Mice and Men has its own special hierarchy that is not quite sure. Technically the boss is over everyone and Curley, his son should be the second in line but unofficially Slim has the most power on the ranch. Slim is described by Steinbeck as tall, strong and a hatched face. He has long straight hair and large hands. Wearing blue jeans and denim jacket gives him the typical worker look. With his slowly and thoughtful speech he makes an impression of wisdom (33,34). So does his worldview. He thinks that “everybody in the whole world is scared at each
