Your choice of the Hobbit is absolutely perfect for this assignment. The Hobbit is a trilogy based around an adventure and paints the story of not just one, but multiple heroes. The example you gave of Bilbo being afraid of stepping out of his normal bounds and going on an adventure and the fact he did not want to sign the contract for fear of commitment, is the perfect example of the “Refusal of the Call.” He is being called to do something great, to go on an adventure and be part of something great, yet his fear is about to get him left behind. I agree with your thought process on the initiation; however, I thought of a few other things to add. First, Bilbo does have to prove himself to the Dwarves because he did not appear loyal in the beginning.
