Throughout the story he maintains his common sense, courage, and eagerness. Bilbo looks like an average hobbit: short, fat with round bellies and have fur on their feet. He does not intend to participate in anything that might inconvenience him. He loves eating, being comfortable, smoking on his pipe and the thought of going on an adventure sounds very inconvenient to him. As he travels and embarks on adventures, he must gradually learn to rely on his own abilities and to take the initiative to do what he feels is right. Bilbo gets inspired by Gandalf and casts aside the Comfort of his hobbit hole and runs out the door to solve the quest. So, in a way Gandalf becomes the motivation of Bilbo. Bilbo’s impulsive bravery in the troll camp, including his burglar-like attempt to steal a money purse, begins his figurative transformation from an introvert to an adventurer. Over the course of the novel, Bilbo gradually sheds his modern complacency and becomes more courageous and adventurous. The reader really liked the old-school narration style of Tolkien. Readers can just imagine the author telling the story to his kids or telling the story to you. The reader also enjoyed the songs in the book. However, the book was lacking involvement of female characters. But, the reader would definitely recommend this book because it is set on a fantasy land and its fun. The hobbit is targeted more towards children but at the same time it is not dumped down for children. The reader would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars because the plot and characters were very interesting, but at the same time it did not reflect more on the personality of the side characters, which was
