The Nuremberg Trials started on November 20 1945 with the opening statement issued by the American judge Andrew Jackson and ended July 26 1946 with the closing statement done by Jackson as well. There were 3 main trials: crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. This trial was meant to expose the Fascist plague threatening to sweep over Europe and the rest of the world, following World War One and during World War Two at a time when the country of Germany needed someone or something to blame which in this case it was a group of people, the Jewish. America, Soviet Union, France, and Britain had their judges in these trials to determine the guilt of twenty-two Nazi party members tried (one of which was tried in absence due …show more content…
The whole event of the Holocaust is an example, which was part of what the legal representatives for the Allies were hoping to achieve. A quote showing the value of this trial was “Behind the walls of the camp [Auschwitz] hell began. “ Said Judge Hans Hofmeyer. Also numerous other military practices fall under this category as well. The plan behind the trials was simply to expose then earn justice for those who suffered under the power of the Nazi party such as those who died in camps or other general attacks on the Jewish people. These trials were not just directed at Germany or Nazism but were a warning to the world to make an example of the reaction to such actions performed by Germany. All who aided criminal policies would stand trial as well as those who formulated the ultimate decisions for aggression and atrocities. Consequently, diplomats and financiers, industrialists and soldiers, all who make modern war possible could be called to account by international tribunals . These charges were mostly for the propaganda spread against the Jewish people of Germany and Europe. This propaganda spread throughout the world to such a point that anti-Semitism reached a peak in popularity. The charges laid made an example that countries should be responsible for their actions and attacks on groups of people. Though, it should be noted America is exempt from receiving punishments for their actions according to international law.
