The bee is a great example that shows that one needs to look past their given traits and find identity past their given gifts. It shows one must find joy in order to have a good life. While Krakauer showed how joy can be obtained by humans, animals also find joy while looking past their born identity. The author employs the symbol of the delicate bee to show that one needs to look past their born identity to find joy. “They’re small creatures and they are filling their bodies with sweetness, how could they not moan in happiness”. Mary Oliver shows that although bee’s are very small, delicate creatures, they look past their physical traits and make the best of what they have.
