Many have asserted The Hurt Locker as one of the greatest war films of all time, and for good reason. There is no shortage of astounding acting in The Hurt Locker; with Jeremy Renner teaming up with Brian Geraghty and Anthony Mackie, one is sure to feel emotionally connected to every scene in the movie. Also, The Hurt Locker is able to tie in, from beginning to end, a powerful theme that will change how most people think about war. The Hurt Locker incorporates these aspects of great acting and a strong theme to make it a great film and one for the ages. As the main focus in The Hurt Locker, Jeremy Renner was able to flourish in his role as Sergeant First Class William James. Of course, Jeremy Renner’s acting is what makes the character so convincing. Renner doesn’t do any talking during this scene; however, he is still able to make viewers feel exactly how he wants. By use of both body language and facial expressions, Renner entices audiences to experience the same sorrow and sense of urgency that his character feels. Another great acting job worth noting is the one done by Brian Geraghty. In The Hurt Locker, Geraghty takes on the role of Specialist Owen Eldridge. Eldridge represents all those who mentally struggle with war. He regularly talks to someone that is there to help him psychologically and creates a bond with him. Eldridge is already unsure of how he feels about war but when his mentor dies, he becomes unsure of himself as well. The scene where this becomes the most evident is the desert sniping scene. He sees as enemy on a railroad track in the distance. Instead of shooting him immediately, Eldridge asks Sergeant James to tell him what he should do.
