Since the dawn of time mankind has lived in many different ways. The cinema has depicted the majority of them, but one of the major topics that have been taken up for review again and again, is the life that is lived in the suburbs. The life behind the safe walls of suburbia.
In the movie “The Ice Storm” (1997) directed by Ang Lee, we follow two dysfunctional upper class families, the Hoods and the Carvers, who both live in a suburb in New Canaan, Connecticut. The movie is set during thanksgiving 1973. You can imagine as the father Ben who takes the train to work into town that the family at some stage in their life moved to the suburbs to get a quieter and more undisturbed life.
