Why did they die? Knowing how the men in the water died is not the same thing as knowing why they died. In the “novel let for dead” they not only died physically but they also died emotionally. The time of being alone , scared, and not knowing what is going to happen next can take a really take a hard strain on your body. The strongest of people will eventually break down into the category of the weakest. Physical, mental , and emotional part will take over. The most ask question would have been could there have been a way to prevent these heroes from dying? The time spent to look at the ship's health and condition was poorly spent. When it comes to ships and them carrying so many men and a large object time needs to be spent. This all rounds out to be time not spent wisely. Big tastics can only be completed with good communication . During the night of the explosion many men were asleep and unaware of what was going on. Do to the power outage radio were cut out so communication was lost. As the ship was about to go under they tried to put out a sos to receive help but they were left clueless as of if it worked. Not knowing if it worked the captains could not tell the crew if help was coming. The feeling of not knowing if they were going to be saved left many men with the feeling to give up; like there is nothing left to fight for. It was not also lack of communication on the ship side but also on the navy base.
