These skills are in the order of: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation (Facione). Interpretation by definition means “to comprehend and express the meaning or significance of a wide variety of experiences, situations, beliefs, events judgments, conventions, beliefs, rules, procedures, or criteria” (5). An individual uses what he sees, hears, smells, feels, or tastes to begin forming suggestions from what is present from passed experiences or knowledge. For example, while reading a book, an individual will be constantly connecting themselves with the protagonist, or begin questioning the authors purpose of the text, whether they side with them or not. This will ultimately help clarify ideas a reader has. Another example interpretations, and the most controversial and common interpretations every individual has made on any scale, is stereotyping. One will categorize a person just by their clothes, race, or style.
