In the first few paragraphs, Raymond Carver does a great job describing the characters of the story to the audience. The main character is a man that is married and in the military. He has been in and out of several different military bases, and is currently residing inside the …show more content…
On page 20, Carver says that the blind man and the wife had become close friends, as stated earlier. With that being said, it can be assumed that she will be extremely happy to see him when he arrives to their home. The man will be uncomfortable with him there because he has never met a blind person before, so he will try to make small talk to see what he is like. The husband will find out that the blind man is very much like him, or at least they find interests in similar things. The wife will more than likely be pleased to see that the men are getting along, but there will be some bumps in the road before she is fully happy. The blind man will get along with the husband and will show him something new, but the husband will also do the same for the blind man.
The story "Cathedral" has a great amount of information, and it comes from just the first couple pages. If you read it carefully and think outside the box, then you will find out plenty of information about the story that you could explain it to some who has never heard of it.It also teaches a lesson about giving people a chance, and that you can't judge a book by its cover. This story is a great read, and it should be recommended to several
