For many years, there have been many arguments as to whether or not Congressmen should have term limits. Some say that it infringes on the rights of the people to vote while others say it’s necessary in order for our legislative branch to be effect. The issue has gone as far as being proposed within Congress. In January of 2017, Senator Ted Cruz introduced a constitutional amendment to limit the terms a person can serve in Congress. As stated on his website: “D.C. is broken . . . [and] the American people resoundingly agreed on Election Day, and President-elect Donald Trump has committed to putting government back to work for the American people. It is well past time to put an end to the cronyism and deceit that has transformed Washington into a graveyard of good intentions.” (Cruz).
This points to the fact even members of Congress know that there is a problem in our country today and he knows that an amendment like this is needed.

There is something broken with the system and it needs to be fixed. I personally am in favor of term limits. Why is it that the President of the United States can only serve two terms while the people who create our law can serve for as long as they can? To me this does not make any sense at all. I understand that it does infringe on the people’s right to vote, but I feel that we need new and fresh ideas in Washington. The only problem I see with term limits is that in a person’s last term, they don’t have to worry about getting re-elected so they do not have to be as efficient as they have to be when their seat is on the line in the next election. So the real question is how do we fix this? How can we make our federal government more efficient? The is no definitive answer. At least not
