Could you imagine living in a country where you weren’t allowed to say or write what you wanted if it was against the government? Or allowing the government to through you in jail or worse because you merely spoke your mind and protested? Or even having to follow a certain religion, even if it’s not what you believe? American citizens don’t have to worry about these issues. These rights we hold as citizens of the United States are protected by the first amendment. In my opinion, this amendment is by far the most important. One of the most wonderful ideas our country stands for is freedom. This includes all kinds of freedoms, one of the most important being freedom of religion. The first amendment allows us the right to choose our religion. I believe that being able to choose your religion is an important right to have. For many people, the religion they choose determines how they run their life. In my opinion, it is extremely important to allow a person to decide whether or not they wish to follow a religion and if so which one. The reason our country was founded was to get away from kings and queens. When you are ruled by a king or queen, you often must adapt to the religion they are, as was with the colonists. I think this is an essential right for the “land of the free.” Without this freedom, we wouldn’t truly be “the land of the free”, as we wouldn’t be able to speak or write freely. This right allows Americans to be who they are and say how they feel. It also puts into reality that not everyone is going to be happy with how our government is running all the time. In fact, there is never going to be a point where everyone agrees with everything that is going on. This is why I think it’s right for us to just allow people to speak how they feel and express
